Pray and Faint Not
Luke 18:1-8

And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man: And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?
  1. The Lord's Concern: he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint
    1. Hebrews 11:6 says: But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
    2. 2Thessalonians 3:13 says: But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.
    3. 2Corinthians 4:1-5 says: Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not; But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake.
  2. The Lord's Command: Hear what the unjust judge saith.
    1. And shall not God (give us our requests for His service), which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
    2. John 14:12-15 says: Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. If ye love me, keep my commandments.
  3. The Lord's Condition: when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?
    1. 1John 3:22 says: And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.  If we have true faith then we obey His commandments with the faith that our obedience enables Him to work through us.
    2. Hebrews 11:11 says: Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.  If we have true faith then we will receive the promise of God.  However, our original text said that men ought always to pray, and not to faint.  Pray believing that God will keep His promises.
