To God  in Romans

Below are the places within Romans where we find the literal phrase of to God.  Every Bible reference is a link that, if you are connected to the internet (or have a local copy of LJC1611kjv.com), will take you to the Book Study where that verse is explained in detail and within the context and with many links to other places within the Bible which support the interpretation.  Therefore, there is much more help available beyond the little presented here.

  1. glory to God
    1. Romans 1:20-21  For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened..  Men were condemned for refusing to give glory to God.
    2. Romans 4:19-21  And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara's womb: He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform..  Abraham gave glory to God by believing the promise even when all physical evidence said that the promise was impossible.  God does not get glory out of what we can do but out of what He does through our life.
    3. Romans 15:5-6  Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus: That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ..  The strong and the weak are to glorify God together.  The weak because his need is met and the strong because God enabled him to help his brother.
    4. Romans 15:8-9  Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers: And that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written, For this cause I will confess to thee among the Gentiles, and sing unto thy name..  We are to glorify God because He brought us into salvation in spite of His people trying to exclude us.
    5. Romans 15:17  I have therefore whereof I may glory through Jesus Christ in those things which pertain to God..  We are to glory, to other men, about the things which belong to God but which were made available to us through Jesus Christ.
  2. reconciled to God
    1. Romans 5:10  For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life..  We received reconciliation with God  when we were initially saved.  However, we continue to sin, the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience  (Ephesians 2:2; Ephesians 5:6; Colossians 3:6).  When we let the life of the Son of God rule our life, it changes us to be like Him (John 1:12-13) and saves  us from the wrath of God.
  3. liveth unto God
    1. Romans 6:10-11  For in that he (Christ) died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.  Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.  We are to 'stop our sinning' and live unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
  4. yield yourselves unto God
    1. Romans 6:13  Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of ighteousness unto God.  We have a lot of pressure and temptation to do wrong that comes from our flesh, the world and the devil.  Likewise, God provides pressure to do right through the indwelling Holy Spirit and our conscience.  We chose which pressure to yield to in every situation of life.  Here we are told to yield yourselves unto God and not produce unrighteousness in our life.
  5. servants to God
    1. Romans 6:22  But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.  If we do not have your fruit unto holiness  then we have not been made free from sin, and become servants to God.
  6. we should bring forth fruit unto God
    1. Romans 7:4  Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God..  As in Ephesians 5:32, we see that our ongoing personal relationship to Christ  is pictured by marriage.  This personal relationship allows Christ  to give is personal commandments of rightesousness which He does not give to all saved.  Our obedience to those personal commands, not our obedience to rules that all saved must follow, is what brings forth fruit unto God.
  7. prayer to God
    1. Romans 10:1  Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.  This entire chapter is about the difference between saved people who walk after the flesh  and those who walk after the Spirit.  Saved people are NOT called according to his purpose,  and do NOT have this promise unless they walk after the Spirit.  Those saved people who walk after the flesh  are NOT according to his purpose  and, therefore, do NOT meet the requirement to claim this promise.
  8. my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is
    1. Romans 10:1  Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.  The children of Israel were constantly persecuting Paul and seeking his death until they finally got his head cut off.  Yet his prayer  was for their salvation in obedience to Matthew 5:44 and Luke 6:28, which say Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you..
  9. he maketh intercession to God
    1. Romans 11:2-3  God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying, Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.  God will not listen to prayers for God to hurt His children, even from His prophet.  It does not matter how much we are hurt, we must react correctly.  We are to pray for God to bring salvation and sanctification to the people who claim to be His and turn our enemies into supporters.
  10. ye present your bodies...acceptable unto God
    1. Romans 12:1  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.  Many messages have been preached on this verse.  Each word is important and must be considered.  For example, the word therefore  tell us that this is based upon the prior chapter and it must be considered as the basis for this command.
  11. giveth thanks (to God)
    1. Romans 14:6  He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks..  God has a personal relationship with believers and tells different people to do different things in their personal relationship with Him.  One reason for this is to show that we are not all following religious rules that are the same for all people.  We are each to obey God in a personal way and give thanks to God for how He works in our personal life.
  12. every tongue shall confess to God
    1. Romans 14:11  For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.
    2. This is based upon scripture.
    3. This is based upon the life of God, which no being can end nor defeat.
    4. No matter who rebels today, including Satan, all beings will confess the power and position of God (bow the knee)  and publicly acknowledge His power and position over them.
  13. every one of us shall give account of himself to God
    1. Romans 14:12  So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.  NO one will avoid personal judgment of his life.  God is recording our every word, attitude and action and we will have to answer for each which is not covered by our confessing and forsaking sin.
  14. he that...serveth Christ is acceptable to God
    1. Romans 14:17-18  For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men.
    2. Notice that we must in these things serveth Christ.  This is service in the on-going personal relationship with God which requires us to personally obey in ways that are different from other Christians while remaining within the commands of the Bible.  This is NOT obedience to religious rules.
    3. This obedience also is based upon righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
    4. In addition, our personal obedience in these matters increases our righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
    5. Being approved of men  takes time and only comes after they see what you are really like.  In addition, not all men will approve  because Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.  (2Timothy 3:12).
    6. If we are not approved  by at least some godly men then we (probably) are not acceptable to God.
    7. These verses give us the definition of the kingdom of God.
  15. ye strive together with me in your prayers to God
    1. Romans 15:30-32  Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ's sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me; That I may be delivered from them that do not believe in Judaea; and that my service which I have for Jerusalem may be accepted of the saints; That I may come unto you with joy by the will of God, and may with you be refreshed.
    2. We are to pray to God.
    3. We are to pray to God  for our pastor and godly leaders.
    4. We are to pray this way for the Lord Jesus Christ's sake, and for the love of the Spirit.  The word for  means 'here's why'.  We are to pray this way because we have the love of the Spirit.  We are also to pray this way in order to accomplish the things that the Lord Jesus Christ  is trying to accomplish through our life.
    5. We are to pray for the protection of our godly leaders.
    6. We are to pray that the service to God, of our leaders, will be accepted by the saved.
    7. We are to pray that our godly leaders will stay in the will of God.
    8. We are to pray that our godly leaders will have the joy of the Lord in all of their life.
    9. We are to pray that our godly leaders will be able to accomplish the job that God gave them.
    10. We are to pray that our godly leaders will be able to refresh  our spirits.
  16. To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ
    1. Romans 16:27  To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ for ever.  Amen..  All saved (through Jesus Christ)  are to bring glory to God  with all of their life.
