Sections within the list of Verses include: Lord Only, Jesus Only, Christ Only, Lord Jesus, Lord Christ, Jesus Christ, Christ Jesus, Lord Jesus Christ, Son, Son of God, Son of Man, Son of David, Saviour, King, Lamb. The following divisions of verses are not ' hard and fast '. They show that there are verses to support each of the points within the summary that I provided. It is possible for verses to support more than one point and there could be many other ways to index these verses. The reader may feel that a given verse that is listed under one point would support another point that it is not listed under and is free to add the verse to that point within their own notes. I would also appreciate receiving updates. However, the reasons that I provide (for grouping the verse) should be examined closely before saying that a given verse does not support the point that I say it does support.
Many people have complained that I should not do any division of these names even though God provides the divisions within His Word. However, I have found that ignoring God's divisions supports doctrinal error. I am convinced that God will make them ashamed
( 2Timothy 2:15) at the judgment seat of Christ
( Romans 14:10; 2Corinthians 5:10-11) and I do not wish to share their fate.
Further, many people have problems with certain technicalities such as the use of punctuation. However, the Bible is a book of Law (among other things) and technicalities (such as punctuation) have a very critical role in Law. The fact that some people have problems with these technicalities is irrelevant. The same is true with the Bible. One of the very critical technicalities of law is that very specific definitions for words are used and the popular usage definitions don't matter. The only definition that a court accepts is the definition provided and used within the Law. The same is true for the Bible. Thus many popular religions have their own definition for salvation
, but their definition is irrelevant in the Court of God. Likewise, popular religious beliefs for the various roles of the Son of God are irrelevant. The only thing that matters is what the word of God actually teaches us is the definition used by God. When God's Word provides a division, and God's Spirit shows me that division and tells me to take a message to God's people that these divisions are critical, the complaints of some people are irrelevant. As I said, these divisions exist but others may differ on some minor point of division. I will not argue these points, so long as they do not deny the existence of divisions within the word of God. The reader is free to include more verses or subdivisions within these divisions that I have provided. The reader is also free to include any verse in more than one division. Additionally, the reader may divide some sub-points (like the Conditional blessings of Christ) differently than I do. The main message is that I will not argue over minor differences of opinion so long as there is agreement on major doctrinal issues which are shown by the divisions that God provides in His Word. For example, most verses that use Lord
and Jesus
(and are not saying Lord Jesus Christ
), use the two names separately in the same verse. While these verses are listed under Verse - Lord Jesus, the use of Lord
in those verses is also included in Verse - Lord Only and the use of Jesus
is also included in Verse - Jesus Only. Some people may want to argue about inclusion in one or more of these sections. How the verse uses Lord
by itself will be in Verses - Lord Only while how the verse uses Lord
in relationship to the use of Jesus
will be in Verse - Lord Jesus. While this distinction can be subtle, it can also be doctrinally significant. (One common technical error made by people is refusing to acknowledge the difference between a word that defines the relationship between two items and a word that describes a single item.) Therefore, consideration was made as to the use of Lord
by itself in addition to the use of Lord
in relationship to the use of Jesus
within a given verse. Also, consideration was made as to the use of Jesus
by itself in addition to the use of Jesus
in relationship to the use of Lord
within a given verse. Most verses that use Lord
and Christ
(while not saying Lord Jesus Christ
), use the two names separately in the same verse. The note above for Lord Jesus
above also applies for Lord Christ
. There is a separate Subject Study called Relational Prepositions which identifies verses that attach prepositions to Names of the Son of God in order to define our relationship to Him. This is because there was some doctrinal disagreement over the attachment of these prefixes to the names of the Son of God.

- The doctrine that the man
Jesus
also has received God's role as Christ
. - Declared in scripture
- In general, every verse that uses
Jesus Christ
is supporting this doctrine in a general way. That is, Christ
is not a name like pastor
is not a name. Use of Jesus Christ
in like the use of Pastor Mike ' in that both link the role to the person fulfilling the role. Below are verses that show this linkage in a more specific way. - Matthew 1:1, 16, 18; 16:16, 20; 26:63; 27:17, 22; Mark 12:35; Luke 2:11, 26; John 1:17; 17:3; 20:31; Acts 2:36; 10:36; 17:3; 18:5, 28; 19:4; 28:31; Romans 8:11; Colossians 1:1; 2Timothy 2:8; 1John 1:7; 2:1, 22; 3:23; 4: 2, 3; 5:1, 6, 20;
- Jesus is called or proved to be the
Son of David
which makes Him Jesus Christ. See verses under Son of David below.
- Doctrinal item that salvation is started with the ministry of
Jesus
and is then perfected
through the ministry of Christ
. These items are given to all saved, and emphasize that salvation requires both the ministry of Jesus
and the ministry of Christ
. However, these verses do not emphasize the spiritual maturity after salvation like verses that use Christ Jesus
, do. - John 17:3; Acts 2:38; 3:6, 20; 4:10; 5:42; 8:12, 37; 9:10, 34; 11:17; 15:11, 26; 16:18, 31; 20:21; 28:31; Romans 3:22; 5:15; 6:3; 15:8, 16; 16:25, 27; 1Corinthians 1:1, 4; 2:2; 3:11; 2Corinthians 5:18; 13:5; Galatians 2:16; 3:1, 14, 22; 5:6; Ephesians 1:5; 2:20; 3:1, 9; Philippians 1:1, 8, 11, 19; 2:21; Colossians 1:1; 1Timothy 1:1, 16; 2Timothy 1:10; 2:8; Titus 2:13; 3:6; Hebrews 10:10; 13:21; 1 Peter 2:5; 3:21; 4:11; 2 Peter 1:1; 1John 1:3, 7; 2:1; 3:23; 5:6, 20; 2John 1:7; Jude 1:1-2; Revelation 1:5, 9; 12:17;
- Combination of the roles of
Jesus
and Christ
. These verses do not necessarily provide direct doctrinal support of salvation like the verses listed above do, but they support doctrines requiring the combination of the roles of Jesus
and of Christ
and that the salvation provided by each role is personal in nature. - Romans 1:1, 6, 8; 2:16; 5:17; 15:17; 2Corinthians 1:1, 19; 4:6; Galatians 1:1, 12; Philippians 1:26; Hebrews 13:8; 1Timothy 4:6; 2Timothy 1:1, 10; 2:3, 8; Titus 1:1; Philemon 1:1, 9; 1 Peter 1:1, 2, 3, 7, 13; Revelation 1:1, 2;
- Day of Jesus Christ is not the same as
the day of the Lord
. - Receiving the Kingdom of God requires accepting salvation through
Jesus Christ
. - Son Jesus Christ = God's the Son in human form
- Verses where
Jesus
and Christ
are used separately and where the verses are not categorized under other categories (Christ Jesus
, Lord Jesus Christ
, etc) - Apostle of Jesus Christ
- Prisoner of Jesus Christ
- Soldier of Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ

- Christ and Jesus = emphasize the difference between the two ministries of the Son of
God's.
- Christ Jesus provides salvation with spiritual maturity after conversion being emphasized as a part of true Biblical salvation.
Christ Jesus
is Lord
= The things commanded by God's the Son through His roles as Jesus
and as Christ
are backed up by the power and judgment of the Lord
. The verses that use Christ Jesus
, as opposed to Jesus Christ
emphasize the spiritual maturing after conversion and can be expected to show up at the Judgment seat of Christ
. - Christ Jesus = Blessings to some saved who have also matured spiritually. These blessings are only to saved people, and are available to all saved, but spiritual maturity after profession is required. Blessings that come after profession but are only given to some saved use
Christ
as opposed to Christ Jesus
. In these verses, spiritual maturity is more emphasized than for verses that use Jesus Christ
: - Romans 3:24; 8:1, 2, 39; 15:5; 16:3; 1Corinthians 1:2, 30; 4:15; 15:31; 16:24; Galatians 2:4; 3:26, 28; 4:14; 6:15; Ephesians 1:1; 2:6, 7, 10, 13; 3:11, 21; Philippians 1:1; 2:5; 3:3, 8, 12, 14; 4:7, 19, 21; Colossians 1:4, 28; 2Timothy 1:13; 2:1; 3:12, 15; 1 Thessalonians 2:14; 5:18; Philemon 1:6, 23; Hebrews 3:1; 1 Peter 5:10, 14;
- Christ Jesus = The man
Jesus
fulfilled a prophecy in the Old Testament that was about Christ
. This shows that Jesus
is Christ
. - Please see the Study called Relational Prepositions for verses that use
In/of/by/with Christ Jesus
.

Jesus
and Lord
used in the same verse but used separately - also under Lord Only and Jesus Only - Matthew 4:7, 10; 9:28; 11:25; 13:51; 17:4; 20:30; 21:42; 22:37; Mark 5:19; 10:51; 12:29; Luke 4:8, 12; 5:8, 12; 7:6; 10:21; 23:42; John 4:1; 8:11; 11:21, 32, 39; 13:25, 36; 20:2; 21:7, 12, 15, 17, 20, 21; Acts 9:5, 17, 27; 22:8; 26:15; Romans 4:24; 1Corinthians 12:3; 2 Peter 1:2;
Jesus
and Lord
are in a verse where someone talked to Jesus
and addressed Him as Lord
. - Verses where
Jesus
used Lord
in reference to God's the Father. - Doctrine that
Jesus
is Lord
(God's in the flesh
) is our ultimate leader (Lord
). - Mark 5:19; Luke 4:8, 12; 5:8; 24:3; John 4:1; Acts 1:21; 4:33; 7:59; 8:16; 9:5, 17, 27, 29; 11:20; 19:5, 10, 13, 17; 20:24, 35; 21:13; 22:8; 26:15; Romans 4:24; 2Corinthians 4:10, 14; Galatians 6:17; Philippians 2:19; Colossians 3:17; 1 Thessalonians 2:15; 4:1, 2; 2 Thessalonians 1:7; Philemon 1:5 Hebrews 13:20; 2 Peter 1:2; Revelation 22:21;
- Doctrinal difference between
Lord Jesus
and Jesus
. - Paul's statement that he received his apostleship of the
Lord
(God's) and of Jesus
(in flesh personally teaching Paul like other apostles). - Error: Calling Jesus
Lord
as a title while not giving Him all of the honor due (making a decision that is His only, etc). - All the power and privilege of God's in the role of Lord (our judge in Heaven, etc) combined with the role of Jesus (
God's in flesh = human
). Used to distinguish of
God's the Father as Lord
: - Source of salvation for religious men, especially Jews.
- True salvation (through Lord Jesus) as opposed to professed, but false, salvation (through Jesus only)
- Not enough for salvation (roles of Lord and Jesus only) without also
accepting the role of Christ.
- The day of the Lord Jesus.
- After the resurrection
Jesus
was recognized as taking back the attributes of Lord
and became Lord Jesus
Home
Verses that also included Jesus
are not included here. Neither were verses where it could be argued that Lord
and Christ
were referring to different persons in the
Godhead. The exact phrase of Lord Christ
only occurs in Colossians 3:24. The rest of the verses below have Lord
and Christ
in the same verse but those with Lord Jesus Christ
are not included in this section. Christ
is Lord
Lord
and Christ
are two different persons of the Trinity Lord
and Christ
are used separately in the same verse to emphasize the differences between the two roles. - The commands of
Christ
are designed to purify and spiritually
mature have the weight of God's law (as Lord
) behind them but require more righteousness than the Law requires.

Every use of Lord Jesus Christ
in the New Testament is a combination of all three roles of the Son of
God's: His roles as Lord
and Jesus
and Christ
. While most uses are this combination, some uses place an additional emphasis on a particular aspect of this combination. - Doctrinal verses: The following verses clearly state an important doctrine. Please see notes on these verses for the explanation of the doctrine.
