There are many forms of life
in the world and in the Bible (plant, animal, human, spiritual, etc). We need to be rightly dividing the Word of Truth
by looking at the context and making sure that the type of life
which is in the sentence is the same type of life
that we apply the sentence to. Please see the context of each sentence and the note associated with each to verify the type of life
, which the word of God
is talking about in that particular instance. only man was given the type of life which lasts for eternity.
God created the never-changing laws of true science and of math when He created this physical reality. God does not change: (Malachi 3:6; Hebrews 13:8). God also made never-changing laws when He wrote His word. Those laws are more authoritative than the laws of creation, because Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away
(Matthew 24:35; Mark 13:31 and Luke 21:33). Many people believe a doctrine of devils
(1Timothy 4:1) that they can ignore or over-ride these laws of God's word with their own opinion or their religious beliefs. If such are truly saved, then they will be made ashamed
at the judgment seat of Christ
(Romans 14:10; 2Corinthians 5:10) and all of Heaven will know of their error for all eternity.
Part of God's never-changing laws of this physical reality are the laws of Math. And, man uses the laws of Math to understand and explain our physical reality. One of the things which we learn from Math is that there are multiple dimensions within our physical reality. Non-living things of this physical reality, such as rocks, exist in three dimensions: height, width and depth. Living things, such as plants and animals, exist in those three dimensions and in the dimension of time. All living things move by themselves in time. (For example, plants turn their flowers to follow the sun.) Humans, because God made man a living soul
(Genesis 2:7; 1Corinthians 15:45) exist in the prior four dimensions and in the dimension of spirit. This is why men can understand abstract things such as math and the laws of science, while nothing else of this physical dimension can understand the abstract. No animal or plant has an eternal soul. It is also why man will exist for eternity, in Heaven or the lake of fire
, while animals and plants will not continue to exist. And, with an eternal soul, man needs to seek eternal life
if he wants to go th Heaven and avoid eternity in the lake of fire
.
The word live
is: 'the active verb form of life' while the word life
is the noun form. (Below is the dictionary definition.) A critical verse to understand this Bible truth is Matthew 4:4, which says; But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God
. This sentence quotes Deuteronomy 8:3. Therefore, this is part of the law of God. Please see the note for Galatians C2-S14, which says; For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God
. That note has doctrine on how God wants the saved the live. In addition, Please see the note for Philippians 1:21, which says; For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain
. As explained in that note, the saved are supposed to live a life which displays the influence and control by Christ
. The world defines Christian
with a non-Biblical definition and most saved people, including preachers, also use a non-Biblical definition. There were probably 20,000 professing saved people in the Jerusalem Church who were saved but the word of God
denies that they were true Biblical Christians
. Please see the note for that reference as well as the note for 1Peter 4:16 about the true Biblical definition of Christian
. Please see the note for Romans C9S28 about live / walk by faith
. Please see the note for Romans C11S6 about The just shall live by his faith
. Please see the note for Colossians C3S4 about Christ lives through us
.
The word of God
uses the phrase eternal life
26 times and used the phrase everlasting life
11 times. These are promises that God gives to those people who fulfill His requirements. Please see the Promises sections in the Significant New Testament Events and the Significant Events in the New Testament documents. Notice that every promise includes a requirement for us to do something before God gives us the promise. Those people who refuse to fulfill God's requirements do not receive the promise, in spite of the popular lies from doctrine of devils
(1Timothy 4:1).
The word eternal
is defined as: 'existing with no beginning and no end'. The word everlasting
is defined as: 'existing with a beginning but no end'. For some reason, many people confuse these two phrases. Now, as seen below, the truly saved are offered eternal life
. But, since our physical life has a beginning and our spiritual life has a beginning, we can not receive eternal life
as our own. However, just as a man says that his wife is his and the wife says that the husband is hers, so also can we say that our Lord Jesus Christ
is ours. The Bible references which say that we can have eternal life
are speaking about a relationship that is pictured by marriage.
The truly saved are given everlasting life
. Please see the Message called Labor for Everlasting Life. The phrase everlasting life
is defined as: 'life existing with a beginning but no end'. The following references have the phrase everlasting life
in the word of God
in:
And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. This is the only mention of
everlasting lifein the Old Testament. Notice that it clearly says that some people who are dead will be resurrected (
many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake) to
everlasting life, in Heaven, and
some to shame and everlasting contemptin the
lake of Fire. This, obviously, is not just a New Testament doctrine. I can not say for positive why this sentence uses the word
manyinstead of
all. God has not chosen to reveal that to me.
And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. This promise is to all saved (
every one) who is willing to suffer loss in this world (
hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands) in order to serve
Jesus Christ(
for my name's sake) are promised rewards (
shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life) in Heaven. It should be obvious that the phrase
everlasting lifeis not talking about physical life in this physical reality. Therefore, all promised rewards are for after we get to Heaven.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. This verse is usually preached for what we must do to be saved. No disagreement. But, it also promises
everlasting lifeto those who fulfill the requirement of this verse. It also promises that such people will not go to Hell (
should not perish), nor even to the lied about place called 'Purgatory'.
He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. This sentence literally says that the truly Biblically saved (
He that believeth on the Son) has as a 'life-style possession' (
hath) of
everlasting life. It also says that
he that believeth not the Son shall not see life'They will never even see Heaven' and
the wrath of God abideth on him('those people will receive the never-ending (
abideth)
wrath of Godin Hell'. Unfortunately, too many people downplay the seriousness of this warning because they have been taught to use wrong definitions for words in
the word of God.
But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. Here,
Jesuswas speaking symbolically to the 'woman at the well'. The
water, that He spoke of, was: 'a changed spirit in this physical life'. Notice that he also says that this changed spirit will be:
a well of water springing up into everlasting life. That is: 'the truly saved will be bringing the message of true salvation to other people so that they can also receive
everlasting life'. Too many people claim salvation while refusing to do the job that was the reason for God saving them.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. Once more we see that this person has a 'life-style possession' (
hath) of
everlasting life. And, that they are
passed from death unto life('changed their everlasting destiny from the
lake of fireto Heaven'). However, as our sentence says, God's requirement is 'a life-style belief (
believeth) on the power and authority (
on) of God and the
wordwhich God sent through
Jesus'. People who put their trust and belief in religion, which goes against
the word of Goddo not fulfill this requirement and do not receive this promise.
Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed. This is symbolic language spoken by
Jesuswith the word
meatmeaning: 'the basic necessities of life'. We are to not worry about our physical needs because those are God's responsibilities to provide if we are truly devoting our life to the service of God's kingdom (
which the Son of man shall give unto you). We are commanded to
labourfor the everlasting rewards (
Labour...for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life). People, wrongly, say that we should not
labourfor the everlasting rewards, but
labourto show our love of God. However, that is a command to disobey this command from our
Lord Jesus Christ.
And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. 'Here is the will of God the Father' (
this is the will of him that sent me) 'Everyone who spiritually looks close enough to understand Who they are looking at
sees
the Son of God, not religion' (
and believeth on him) 'has a life-style belief (
believeth) on the power and authority (
on) of the
Son of God'
may have everlasting life'here is the promise to those people who fulfill the stated requirement' (
I will raise him up at the last day) 'Such are promised resurrection into Heaven with their new body'.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. This means: 'Never doubt' (
Verily, verily) 'what
Jesussays' (
I say unto you) 'anyone who has a life-style belief on the power and authority of
Jesus' (
that believeth on me) 'possesses forever' (
hath) 'spiritual life which can not be lost' (
everlasting life).
Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles. Here, we are told that God had Paul tell the Jews that they were
unworthy of everlasting lifebecause they trusted in their religious traditions instead of the truth from
the word of God. (
seeing ye put it from you). Here we are told to not argue with unbelieving religious fanatics but go to people who are willing to listen.
But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. God
frees us from sin, and makes us
servants to Godso that we can bear
fruit unto holinessand receive our end rewards of
the end everlasting life. God does not save us so that we can continue in a life of sin.
The truly saved are offered everlasting life
. The phrase everlasting life
is defined as: 'life existing with no beginning but and end'. The everlasting life
, which is offered to the truly saved, is: 'An ongoing personal relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ
that is pictured by marriage'. As already mentioned, just as a man says that his wife is his and the wife says that the husband is hers, so also can we say that our Lord Jesus Christ
is ours. However, this requires our building our ongoing personal relationship after our initial salvation. People who refuse to obey, in this physical life, can not expect much of a relationship in eternity.
The following references have the phrase eternal life
in the word of God
in:
And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?. This recognizes that not everyone will receive
eternal lifeand that some people will end up in the
lake of fire. Like many religious people, he thought he could earn a relationship with our
Lord Jesus Christ.
And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal. We either go into
life eternal, which is 'in Heaven with God for eternity' or we got into
everlasting punishment, which is 'in the
lake of firefor
everlasting'.
And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?. This is the standard error which is a
doctrine of devils(1Timothy 4:1) and which claims that we must do some religious act to
inherit eternal life. We are not saved by our actions but by the person Who is the
Lord Jesus Christand He only saves people who accept an ongoing personal relationship with Him as their own personal
Lord.
And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's, But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life. God promises blessings to those saved people who are truly willing to suffer loss, in this world, in order to serve God's kingdom in this life. Please see the Promises sections in the Significant New Testament Events and the Significant Events in the New Testament documents. Notice that every promise includes a requirement for us to do something before God gives us the promise. We are not saved by acts but are rewarded in Heaven for our acts of faith in this physical life.
And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?. This is another report of the same doctrine as found in Mark 10:17. Please see the doctrinal answer above.
And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?. Notice that this is the same question and doctrine as the prior reference and as Mark 10:17 with only non-consequential wordings differences and the position, in this world, of the person asking the question. The doctrinal answer from
Jesusis the same in all cases. {God does not change: (Malachi 3:6; Hebrews 13:8)}. And, {
God is no respecter of persons: Acts 10:34; Romans 2:11; Ephesians 6:9; Colossians 3:25 and James 2:1. Also explained in the notes for Romans 14:10-LJC; Romans C7S3 and Romans C10S13.}
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. Here we see that
Jesushad to die for our sins (
even so must the Son of man be lifted up) but we must
believeth in him('have a life-style belief in the person Who is
Jesus Christ') if we want to
have eternal life.
And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together. This sentence needs to be considered within the context in which it is presented. It tells us that no one 'wins a soul' completely by themselves but that others influenced that soul also. And, it tells us that our reward is not in this physical reality but is in Heaven (
life eternal). Again, we do not earn salvation but do earn rewards in Heaven.
Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
Jesustold this to the religious leaders who taught that religious activity caused spiritual
salvationand spiritual
sanctification. In this sentence,
Jesustold them that they were doctrinally wrong and that these spiritual things only came from Him personally.
Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. The religious people then, and the religious people today, do not understand that this sentence is symbolic language. Our bodies are composed of the things which we eat.
Jesusis symbolically telling us that our everyday life must be composed of His personal guidance if we want to be assured of
eternal life, and of going to Heaven (
I will raise him up at the last day) while still in this physical life. Please see the note for this sentence for more details on this symbolic truth.
thou hast the words of eternal life. This was said by Peter when many disciples left
Jesusand
walked no more with himbecause He told them a
hard saying, w2hich they did not understand. True
living by faithrequires us to accept Bible truths which we do not understand and which our
natural reasoningrejects.
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. Again, we read a promise (Please see the Promises sections in the Significant New Testament Events and the Significant Events in the New Testament documents. Notice that every promise includes a requirement for us to do something before God gives us the promise). In order to receive this promise we must
hear (the) voice (of Jesus)and
follow Him('do the spiritual things that He did in this life'). Please see the Doctrinal Study called What Did Jesus Do?.
He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. This tells us that we must put a very low priority on the things of this physical life (
hateth his life in this world) if we want to have rewards in
life eternal. Again, our relationship with our
Lord Jesus Christ, in Heaven, depends on our service to Him while we are in this physical life.
These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. This is the start of the true 'Lord's prayer'. Notice that
Jesus Christprays that what He does through the church, after His resurrection, is mainly to
glorify thee'give glory to God the Father'. God does not receive any glory from a person claiming to be saved and continuing to live in sin. (The phrase:
hast given him power over all fleshspeaks of Matthew 28:18-20). Therefore, this sentence is speaking about what He will do after His resurrection and return to Heaven. Notice that we are literally told what
life eternalis when He prays:
And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. This is not a religious relationship with God but is an ongoing personal relationship with God (
know).
And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed. This chapter tells about the church at Antioch sending Paul and Barnabas as the first missionaries. Certain Jews, who believed that only Jews could be saved and that true salvation was only by keeping the Jewish religion, opposed the message from God through Paul and Barnabas. Acts 13:46: says:
Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles. Still today, religious people oppose God's truth and claim that God can only save people who obey their religion. But, as Paul preached, God gives
eternal life('an ongoing personal relationship with our
Lord Jesus Christ') to those whom He
ordainsbecause they
believe.
Who will render to every man according to his deeds: To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life. These verses are part of a sentence that has been chopped into 7 verses. They are in a chapter with the theme of; 'Don't be a Hypocrite'. Religious people want people to miss the message of this chapter and sentence by emphasizing verses instead of whole sentences. But, even chopped into verses, the message is clear to those who pay attention.
the righteous judgment of God...will render to every man according to his deeds. Religions which claim that we can 'claim the promises without fulfilling the requirements of God' are proven liars. The same is true for the doctrinal lie that 'there is eternal joy and no punishment for sin so long as people claim to be saved'.
But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord. Notice that our sentence says:
through righteousness. People who claim to be saved but who also refuse to let God's
righteousness
reignin their lives may not be truly saved (
unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord) and surely do not receive the assurance of salvation so long as they refuse to obey
Jesus Christ our Lordand refuse to let God's
righteousness
reignin their lives. Once more, we see that our quality of our relationship with our
Lord Jesus Christ, in Heaven, depends on letting God work through our life in this physical reality.
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. This is the conclusion of the chapter which starts with:
Romans 6:1-2 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?. People who claim to be saved, but continue to live in sin are not assured of
eternal lifewhich God gives only
through (an ongoing personal relationship with) Jesus Christ our Lord.
Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life. This is part of the instructions from Paul to his favorite preacher boy. Notice that he tells Timothy to
lay hold on eternal life. This means 'actively work to keep holding onto
eternal lifethrough all of the problems and spiritual wars of this life'. Too many rich people believe the error that their giving money to church earns then a good relationship. However, Paul writes that our relationship with our
Lord Jesus Christ, in Heaven, requires us to
do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate. Also, too many people believe that
eternal lifeis part of salvation and something that we can not lose no matter what we do or don't do as a saved person.
Eternal lifeis 'our quality of our relationship with our
Lord Jesus Christin Heaven' and is added after salvation and is the basis of our everlasting rewards after we get to Heaven. Remember that John 4:36 told us that the
fruitsof
eternal lifeare not received until we get to Heaven.
O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called: Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Here we are warned that false doctrine can come from
science falsely so called. Evolution is an example of such. In addition,
profane and vain babblings(religious claims not matching the
word of God) also cause saved people to
err concerning the faith. We need to keep our minds controlled by the Spirit of God, and the
word of God, in order to avoid
natural reasoningand to keep our true Biblical
faith, which is how we
keep that which is committed to thy trust.
In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began. Our verse literally says that we only have a
hope of eternal life, not a guarantee. As we saw in other references, it is doctrinal error to claim that
eternal lifeis something that is part of our salvation and something that we can not lose. We must obey our
Lord Jesus Christand work for God's kingdom in order to receive the everlasting
fruitsof
eternal life. This verse is the opening to a pastor sent to a church prone to believing doctrinal error and the lie that they can receive spiritual rewards while living a life of sin.
That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. This is part of Paul's summary of this epistle. Once more, we see that we only have a
hope of eternal lifeand that it comes
aftertrue Biblical salvation (
after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us). And, we are told that this salvation and sanctification are
by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost. Anyone who claims to be saved, but not changed to live a holy life, has not truly received the
washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost. Such are the people who believe the doctrinal lie that they can receive spiritual rewards while living a life of sin..
For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;). In this sentence this phrase is used to identify
Jesus ChristWho was
with the Fatherand
manifestedto men. (Verse 2 is a qualifier of verse 1 which literally tells us this truth.) John is writing to believers that
Jesus Christlived a life revealing in every way possible (
the life was manifested) showing us how we are to live and receive blessings from God, which include the
everlasting fruitof
eternal life. Please see the Doctrinal Study called What Did Jesus Do? for the gospel records of the example which He lived for us to follow.
And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life. This sentence tells us that God the Father
hath promised us, even eternal life.
no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. Please realize that there is a difference between what the Bible recognizes as an accidental killing and
murder. In addition, as already seen, people can be saved and not building their relationship with our
Lord Jesus Christ(not
hath eternal life abiding in him). Once more, the
word of Godmakes a distinction between true
salvationand true
sanctification.
And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. No one is saved (has
eternal life) separate from receiving it from God's Son and that requires them fulfilling His requirements, not just their doing a religious act.
may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God, but this requires us accepting what John has
written untous in this epistle.
eternal lifeis only
in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. Please also see the references and related notes in the Relational Preposition Study for the phrase
in him.
But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. This tells us that we need to
build up yourselves on your most holy faithand
Keep (ourselves) in the love of God. if we truly want to receive
the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christand to enjoy
eternal life.
Please see the note for each sentence listed above for more details on each the wording of each sentence. In addition, please also see the note for Romans 2:7 which has additional verses which teach the same thing while not using these exact words. Finally, please note that all references speak of an ongoing personal relationship with God and not a religious relationship. The claim that religion gives us true spiritual salvation
and / or true spiritual sanctification
is proven to be a lying doctrine of devils
(1Timothy 4:1).
There is also another important doctrine which is written in 2Corinthians 2:15-16. It says: For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish: To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?
Many people get hung-up on the word savour
, which is, basically, 'smell and taste'. But, the real important word is unto
, which is 'approaching and reaching a goal with the emphasis on the approach'. And, the question becomes: 'What does God mean by life approaching life and by death approaching death?'.
Death
is understood to be 'the end of life'. However, men have a hard time defining when death
is true. The legal definition of death
varies from one legal
jurisdiction to another. A person can be legally declared death
in one legal jurisdiction while being legally declared alive in another legal jurisdiction. Historically, people have been declared dead, buried and, later, dug up to find their nails broken off while they tried to dig out of the casket. That is why morticians replace all of the blood with another fluid before burying someone today. {Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
(John 6:53-54)}.
The phrase life unto life
is easier to understand, and accept, than the phrase death unto death
. God uses physical life
to teach us about spiritual life
, Someone just saved is called born again
and we are told to spiritually grow
. A grown person is physically larger than a new-born because they have added to their physical body by eating and doing other living things. They also increase their 'quality of life' by learning to do certain skills. And, the same is true for spiritual life. In addition, we have a
similar process with death
.
The main problem that people have with the phrase death unto death
is that they have been taught that death
is a one time event when it really is 'an ongoing process of corruption'. Think about partially spoiled fruit that still has some good parts to it. The reason that people want to deny this true description of death
, is that they want to believe the doctrine of devils
(1Timothy 4:1) that they can enjoy a life of sin and then confess Jesus
, as they are dying, and 'go to eternal joy in Heaven with a mansion next door to Peter'.
While there are older people who make a profession of salvation, it is a lot smaller percentage of people than is true of children. The truth is that a life of sin is an ongoing process of spiritual corruption and it becomes harder for someone to truly 'turn their heart over to Jesus
and accept Him as their personal Lord'. Too many people believe the lie of: 'You are saved by your make a profession, even if it is a lie, and not by the person of Jesus Christ
. That means that you can make a profession while rejecting the personal relationship and Jesus Christ
has no choice but to forgive all of your sins and take you to Heaven'. Jesus
warned us about this lie in Matthew 7:23 Matthew 25:41 and Luke 13:27, which report that He said: then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity
. Genesis 4:1 Genesis 4:25 and tell us; Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived
. Therefore, the true Biblical definition of the word knew
includes 'personal intimate knowledge' and our reported verses tell us that 'Jesus Christ never had a personal intimate relationship with them even while they claimed a religious relationship with Him'.)
2Corinthians 2:15-16 teaches us the truth that death
really 'an ongoing process of corruption'. That is why it is harder for someone to make a true profession of salvation after a lifetime of sin.
Our last consideration, about life
, comes from Philippians 1:19-20, which says: For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death
. (See the note for that sentence for more details on interpreting the sentence and chapter. Use the link provided to access the note.) This sentence exposes another lie from devils. Satan can not cause saved to lose their salvation but can cause them to lose their everlasting rewards by convincing them that they do not have to serve our Lord Jesus Christ
. Look at the percentage of people who claim th be saved but never obey the command to do 'the Great Commission'. They believe the lie that all Heavenly rewards are based upon salvation regardless of the level of service. Look at what an adult can do compared to what an infant can do. As mentioned, God uses physical life to teach about spiritual life. Those who remain spiritual babes
, while in this physical life, will remain the same for eternity. Those saved people who grow spiritually, by serving our Lord Jesus Christ
in this physical life, will receive promises which are denied to saved people who do not grow spiritually. See the Promises sections in the Significant New Testament Events and the Significant Events in the New Testament documents. Notice that every promise includes a requirement for us to do something before God gives us the promise.

Easton's Bible Dictionary defines this word as: 'generally of physical life (Ge 2:7; Lu 16:25, etc.); also used figuratively (1) for immortality (Heb 7:16); (2) conduct or manner of life (Ro 6:4); (3) spiritual life or salvation (Joh 3:16-17,18,36); (4) eternal life (Mt 19:16-17; Joh 3:15); of God and Christ
as the absolute source and cause of all life (Joh 1:4; 5:26,39; 11:25; 12:50)'.
The American Tract Society Dictionary defines this word as: 'In the Bible, is either natural, Ge 3:17; spiritual, that of the renewed soul, Ro 8:6; or eternal, a holy and blissful immortality, Joh 3:36; Ro 6:23. Christ is the great Author of natural life, Col 1:16; and also of spiritual and eternal life; Joh 14:6; 6:47. He has purchased these by laying down his own life; and gives them freely to his people, Joh 10:11,28. He is the spring of all their spiritual life on earth, Ga 2:20; will raise them up at the last day; and make them partakers for ever of his own life, Joh 11:25; 14:19'.
The Morrish Bible Dictionary defines this word as: 'Life is that by which a created being enjoys the place in which the Creator has set it. God breathed into man's nostrils 'the breath of life; and man became a living soul.' Ge 2:7. Sin having come in, this life is forfeited and God claims it, saying, "surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man's brother will I require the life of man." Ge 9:5. This instituted capital punishment for murder, which law has never been rescinded or altered. Scripture recognizes a difference between 'life' in a moral sense and 'existence,' as seen in the passage, "What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good?" Ps 34:12. Here is a man desiring life, desiring to enjoy life. This answers the objection of those who, wishing to deny eternal punishment, say that 'living for ever' is only spoken of the Christian, as in Joh 6:51,58. True, but many other scriptures prove that the wicked will have an eternal existence. Man, in his natural state, is regarded as morally dead in sins, and as needing to be quickened by the power of God; or as living in sins and needing to accept death in order to live in Christ, as in the Epistle to the Romans'.
Webster's 1828 Dictionary defines this word as: 'n. 1. In a general sense, that state of animals and plants, or of an organized being, in which its natural functions and motions are performed, or in which its organs are capable of performing their functions. A tree is not destitute of life in winter, when the functions of its organs are suspended; nor man during a swoon or syncope; nor strictly birds, quadrupeds or serpents during their torpitude in winter. They are not strictly dead, till the functions of their organs are incapable of being renewed. 2. In animals, animation; vitality; and in man, that state of being in which the soul and body are united. He entreated me not to take his life. 3. In plants, the state in which they grow or are capable of growth, by means of the circulation of the sap. The life of an oak may be two, three, or four hundred years. 4. The present state of existence; the time from birth to death. The life of man seldom exceeds seventy years. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. 1Cor. 15. 5.
