Word Studies found on this Site.
Please note:' There is a variety of completeness in the Word and Phrase Studies on this site. Most of the Studies reached by the links on this page are a 'Work in Progress'.While these Studies are not complete, they still are a help to many. A full Study of a word or phrase will deal with every occurrence of the word / phrase, and show how it is applied within the context where it is found, and show how it still matches the central definition. Any Study found through these links which has less than this still needs more work to provide the full Biblical definition. However, the partial Studies still provide a proper application of the word / phrase within the section of the Bible which is studied and should still be helpful. While these partial Studies do not provide the Biblical definition, they do provide a Bible based application which is usually more accurate than the false 'definitions' provided by other means.
People forget that dictionaries, even Webster's 1828 and the 'Greek Dictionary', are books of definitions used by men which may include definitions not used in the Bible and even, sometimes, oppose the definition used by God in the Bible. Therefore, while dictionary definitions can be very helpful, they also could very easily lead to doctrinal error which is far greater than any error which might result from the partial Word Studies presented below.
The Bible teaches a lot about God's way
and how the way
that we do something is directly tied to the result which we receive. That said, there is not enough room here to explain the difference between the proper way
to do a Word Study and the erroneous way
which claims that the definitions from dictionaries of men are true Biblical definitions. I will only say that that is the way
used by 'Bible Correctors' and that Romans 2 warns believers against condemning the way
used by sinners and then using the same way
. :-)
That said, it must also be noted that this site concentrates upon the interpretation of the Bible, while the application of the Bible is treated very lightly or completely ignored, on this web site. The primary job of a preacher is to provide the application of the word of God to the lives of people. Therefore, it is easy for a preacher to think that the application is so important that he starts to believe that his application is the interpretation. This leads to the erroneous type of thinking which led to men claiming that 'they had proved that the world was flat because holy men of God revealed this truth from God'. Holy men of God do give us the application of a Biblical word but the Scientific Method must be used to produce the true Biblical definition.
Please look at what is provided for the word or phrase that you are looking at and do not judge what is available for each word by what is available for another. In addition, since these word definitions can be at the end of a large note for a particular sentence, Please page down or do a find ([ctrl]-F) to get to the details for the particular word within the note where it is found.
In addition, to definitions, this web page has Bible Word Counts. This page has counts of the most popular words within each chapter and for the entire Bible. Knowing the most used words within a chapter or book is a strong indication (but not an absolute identifier) of the theme of the book or chapter. Thus, these counts are useful at times.
